Sustainability

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ has a longstanding commitment to the care and preservation of the environment. Through sustainable ecological practices, education, and research on environmental issues, it will continue to play an important role as a steward of the environment. Services

AASHE

Everyone on Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is included under Âé¶¹´«Ã½'s membership in AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

Air Quality

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is committed to protecting and improving indoor and outdoor air quality and minimizing atmospheric pollution in accordance with Title IV of the Clean Air Act from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). The following addresses this goal:

Battery Bins

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ has recently installed battery recycling bins across the residential side of Âé¶¹´«Ã½.

Construction

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is committed to incorporating environmental considerations in the planning and design-making process for new construction. That is why Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is committed to making sure that all new buildings are certified.

Environment

Well-planned open space contributes to the quality of life on Âé¶¹´«Ã½ by supporting its many social, educational, ecological, recreational, and aesthetic needs. 

Green Cleaning

The University utilizes green cleaning processes and procedures that consider the balance among cost, effectiveness, safety, environmental impact, equipment, industry standards, and final disposal of product.

Hydration Stations

Hydration stations throughout the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ continue to provide cold, fresh drinking water for refillable containers. See the list of current locations!

Lighting

The University is committed to providing outdoor and indoor light in an energy-efficient manner. 

Purchasing

The Physical Plant Department works closely with the Purchasing Department to ensure that the University uses "green" products whenever possible.

Recycling

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ is committed to conserving natural resources and energy by managing materials more efficiently. Less waste can be produced by practicing the 3 R's - reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Transportation

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ recognizes the need to balance the demands of pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles in its transportation management.

Waste Minimization

The University is committed to minimizing the amount of solid and hazardous waste produced on Âé¶¹´«Ã½.

Water Conservation

The University utilizes an assortment of methods to help limit water use.

Affiliations

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ maintains many longstanding partnerships with these important initiatives to continually improve the sustainability of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ community.
