MORE ABOUT MARK
Long Island native Mark Stutzmann chose Â鶹´«Ã½ for many reasons including the connection to a renowned health system and close proximity to his support system.
“I knew the partnership between Â鶹´«Ã½ and Northwell Health could provide me with the best access to resources and opportunities within the healthcare system of New York,â€ he said. “And having my family and friends close to rely on for support during a very intense program was important.â€
Mark made sure to take advantage of the opportunities afforded to him at Â鶹´«Ã½ including the networking events hosted by the University with different hospital systems throughout the state.
“At these events, you are able to connect with a diverse pool of recruiters, learn about job opportunities, and how to navigate the job application process.
Mark credits these events and his mentor, Dr. Amy Roberts, assistant professor in the PA program, for building his confidence to pursue and accept a role at Lenox Hill Hospital in orthopedic surgery.
“Dr. Roberts made sure she was there for all of her students no matter what. If we were having a bad day, whether it be personally, professionally or academically, she was always there to provide advice.
Between the studying and the research projects, Mark also managed to find the time to make a core group of friends in his classmates.
“We have been by each other’s side through it all.
One of Mark’s favorite memories with his classmates was their participation in a Â鶹´«Ã½-wide video competition where they put their acting skills, rather than their medical skills, to the test.
“We found ourselves in endless laughter and somehow managed to secure second place.
The laughter was a welcome reprieve during a stressful and busy point of the school year ̶ and just what the group needed.
“Your classmates are the only ones that fully understand what you are going through, and they become an essential part of your life. I could not have done it without them.
» Mark’s story isn’t unique. In fact, among Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s 2021-2022 undergraduate recipients, 82% of alumni from the Â鶹´«Ã½ Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies who responded to our graduation survey or other reliable sources (95% knowledge rate) reported that they were employed or had started or were planning to start graduate school within one year of graduation.
